WordPress began as a blogging platform and remains the premiere choice for bloggers. But what if you have a business or organizational website? What can you do with a blog?
You can:
- Interest prospective clients / customers by writing posts that show your expertise or discuss your product or service, etc.
- Improve your SEO rankings by showcasing products, services, expertise.
- Improve your SEO rankings by adding new content periodically; your site will be spidered by Google more often if the content changes. That’s a positive.
Content Change Improves Rankings
If you have an e-commerce website, or a media-related site you naturally add new content often and that keeps Google interested. But most small business/organizational sites are static – they start out with content that describes their purpose and offerings and the content rarely changes. Depending on your niche and your competition, and the way people tend to find your site, it may be perfectly fine. But if you’re looking for a competitive edge, updating your website by adding informational or marketing posts, especially if you do it consistently, will improve your rankings.
Over time you can build up an archive of posts / articles that show the depth of your enterprise’s knowledge, quality, etc.
Should You Allow Comments?
If your site isn’t a blog, which are used to build online communities and benefit from comments, then no, you shouldn’t allow comments. Comments require moderating and responding. Comments can be turned off.
The Challenge?
You have to actually write posts! We hadn’t written any for a couple of years and that’s not uncommon! And we have some OLD posts! But while we may not write as often as we should, maybe you or someone you assign will, thereby benefiting your enterprise.
